Police in the southern province of Binh Phuoc have proposed prosecutors to charge a teenage mother with murder for allegedly killing her son with poison while attempting to commit suicide after having a fight with her partner.
Mai Thi Thao, 17, fed her 4-month-old son pesticide on Sunday before drinking the poison herself, said police.
Pham Van Thien, the child's 20-year-old father who has been living with Thao though the two are not officially married, discovered them an hour later. The baby died on the way to hospital while Thao was saved and woke up on Tuesday.
If convicted, Thao will be punished within a range between 12 years in jail and a death sentence, according to Vietnam's Penal Code.
