Police in southern Vietnam have busted a gang that was allegedly involved in armed violence and drug trafficking.
The gang led by Nguyen Duc Cuong, 30, was based in Dong Nai Province but had also spread its tentacles to Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong Province, and Vung Tau.
It began operating in 2010, offering protection for gambling and illegal activities at massage parlors and bus stations.
The police arrested 37 members on Monday and Tuesday, all aged in their 20s, but only held 28 for further questioning.
They seized many weapons including four guns, an electric whip, and many machetes. They also found some heroin.
Cuong said he had another gun bought in Cambodia more than a month ago that he had used in a fight in Dong Nai. The police are looking for it.
Cuong had stabbed a man in September last year, thinking he was trying to steal his girlfriend. The victim did not dare complain to the police fearing further attacks.
