The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has issued a circular legalizing exploitation of unendangered wildlife for commercial purposes.

From November 9 it will issue month-long licenses to hunt 160 species, including barking deer and snakes.

But applicants first have to get forest lessees' permission and file reports on the population of a species as well as their methods of exploitation.

According to the ministry, it is part of its efforts to bring commercial exploitation of wildlife under government management while also facilitating wildlife export by farms.

Earlier the only wildlife regulations were for protecting rare species.
