A Vietnamese oil tanker Thursday rescued 40 survivors out of 200 people who had been on a boat that had sunk in Bangladeshi waters the previous day.
Nosco Victory of the Hanoi-based Northern Sea Transport Company, which had been en route from Bangladesh to Singapore, found them without lifebuoys or even pieces of the boat to cling to.
The boat has resumed its trip and stopped looking for more people.
It informed the Vietnam Maritime Rescue Coordinating Center, which has told Malaysia, Singapore, Bangladesh, and Myanmar to dispatch rescue forces.
The victims will be dropped off when it reaches Singapore on December 9.
Survivors said they had been aboard the Nayou, a tourist boat, when it suddenly sank.
