Vietnam oil drilling firms face fines for hiring illegal workers

Border guards in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Tuesday recommended that authorities should fine three oil exploration firms VND70 million (US$3,360) for illegal use of foreign employees.

The Singapore-owned Asia Pacific Drilling Services was using four Philippine workers who did not have work permits.

BJ - PV Drilling, a joint venture by PetroVietnam with the US's BJ Drilling Company, also used three foreign workers without work permits.

Baker Hughes Drilling Technology, another PetroVietnam joint venture with another US-based company, used six foreign workers whose work permits had expired.
