An official at an agency tasked with executing civil judgments in the central city of Da Nang has been caught red-handed receiving bribe money from a woman, according to police.
Initial reports said that Ngo Thi Ngoc Diep, 47, asked Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong, 40, to help her win a trial on her divorce.
In return, Huong, an official with Thanh Khe District division for the execution of civil judgments, asked Diep to pay her VND30 million (US$1,400).
On Monday, when Diep gave Huong VND29 million at a local cafe and promised to pay the rest the next day, they were busted by investigators from the Supreme People’s Procuracy – Vietnam’s highest prosecutorial offic.
Nguyen Van Quang, a representative of the office in the central and highlands regions, said Huong is now in custody, pending investigation.
Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper said one of Huong’s colleagues was suspected of being involved in the case.
The investigation is ongoing.
