A commune military leader in central Vietnam will be removed from his post for panicking a neighborhood when he fired 15 gunshots skyward last month to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
After discussion, district authorities in Khanh Hoa Province decided to dismiss Bui Thanh Thuan from his post as leader of the Dien Lac Commune Military Unit, and expel him from the Communist Party as well, a district official said.
Le Dinh Thong, head of the Party unit of Dien Khanh District, said on Saturday that the dismissal would be the lightest penalty Thuan would face.
Thuan used a gun from his military unit to shoot into the air during the Tet festival last month.
He was found to be under the influence of alcohol at the time.
The shooting caused a stir around the area.
