CSB 8001, the most advanced ship to be inducted into the Vietnam Maritime Police, was launched Tuesday

A locally-built vessel that was launched in a shipyard in the northern city of Hai Phong Tuesday has become the most advanced in the Vietnamese maritime police's fleet.

The 90-meter-long CSB 8001 is designed for search and rescue and anti-smuggling operations and supporting fishermen offshore, Quan doi nhan dan (People's Military) newspaper reported.

It can remain at sea for 40 straight days, has a range of 5,000 nautical miles (1 nautical mile = 1.85 km), and can operate in winds of up to force nine on the Beaufort Scale, or 47 knots.

The ship built by the Z189 Factory belonging to the General Administration of Defense Industry is the first of its kind to be built in Vietnam.

Built with technology from the Dutch-owned Damen Shipyards Group and British quality specifications, it has a helipad and can carry other equipment.

It highlights local military shipbuilders' capacity for building large vessels, Deputy Defense Minister Nguyen Thanh Cung said in a speech at the launching ceremony.

It is expected that the ship will deploy in the first quarter of next year after completing trials by December end.
