A military-owned shipbuilding company Monday morning launched a tugboat for the marine police in the central city of Da Nang.

The CBS 9003 was designed by Damen Shipyards Group of the Netherlands and built by Vietnam's Song Thu Company under the Ministry of National Defense.

The tugboat is 52 meters in length and 5.5 meters in height.

Colonel Ha Son Hai, director of the Song Thu Company, said the tugboat can operate under any weather conditions for 30 consecutive days.

Colonel Nguyen Quang Dam, chief of staff of the Vietnam Marine Police Department, said the tugboat would be used for search and rescue operations as well as patrolling work to protect the sovereignty of Vietnamese waters and its continental shelf on the East Sea.
