A court in the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang Tuesday handed down a seven-year jail term to a rice farmer whose electric wires meant to exterminate rats killed a man, Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper reported.

Tam, 52, found Pham Van Le, 27, electrocuted in his paddy field at around 11 p.m. on July 3, but did not report the death, instead secretly burying the body.

Le was electrocuted while picking snails.

Tam returned home pretending nothing had happened after burying the body.

Le's family reported him missing to the local police the next day.

A day later Tam admitted his crime and told the police where he had buried Le after they found Le's bucket used for containing snails left in his paddy field.
