A gun and a sword confiscated in Hanoi Monday from the car of a man who claimed to work for the army
The Hanoi police Monday confiscated a rifle with a scope and silencer and a sword from the car of a man who claimed to work for the army in the central province of Nghe An.
Dang Ngoc Quyet, 27, told them that he had brought the gun to shoot cranes and other birds en route to Hanoi where he went to see off his brother-in-law at Noi Bai International Airport, Tien Phong newspaper reported.
The sword had been given to him as a gift by a friend for self-protection, he claimed.
The police flagged down Quyet's car, which also had three other occupants, on a suspicion at around 9.20 p.m. in Cau Giay District.
A search produced the gun and the silencer in the trunk, and the sword on the front seat.
They took in all four for questioning.
Earlier that day the Hanoi police caught Vo Xuan Ky, 37, with a sword in his car, Tien Phong reported.
He too claimed it was given by a friend as a present, and he had put it in the car's trunk and never used it.
The police are investigating both cases.
