Hanoi police arrested Tuesday a man who attempted to shoot at police officers after being pulled over.

Nguyen Van Thuong, 34, faces charges of "resisting public officers on duty" and "illegally storing weapons."

After midnight on Tuesday, a group of emergency police officers patrolling Bach Mai Street signaled for Thuong to stop for driving a motorbike without a license plate.

As soon as he stopped, Thuong jumped off the bike and ran away. He then turned around and pulled out a Colt revolver. He pulled the trigger several times but the gun didn't fire.

Thuong ran into an alley where he was nabbed by police.

There were five bullets in the self-made revolver seized from Thuong, police said.

Thuong has six previous convictions, according to police.
