Police in the northern city of Hai Phong arrested a man on Friday for intentionally setting a fire in his family home that killed his wife and two daughters and left three others, including him, injured.

Tran Dinh Diep, 26, now faces murder charges, online newspaper VnExpress reported.

According to police, on March 17, Diep and his daughters Tran Thu Huyen, age four, and Tran Nhu Ngoc, five, were lying on the bed when Diep heard his father Tran Dinh Hau, 52, and his wife Nguyen Thi Luyen, 28, quarreling.

As the two started to fight, Diep and his mother Nguyen Thi Nen unsuccessfully tried to stop them.

Diep then reportedly became enraged and opened a gasoline can near the bed, splashing gasoline on it and igniting a cigarette lighter.

The resulting fire left six people with burns.
