A judge in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang was suspended Wednesday after being caught using methamphetamine in a guesthouse.
Pham Hoai Nam, 40, was caught early on Saturday with a girlfriend aged around 20 and a bag of crystal drug, news website VnExpress reported.
Both tested positive for methamphetamine.
Local authorities said Nam's action would not attract criminal charges.
The Penal Code says drug users can be punished with two to five years in jail for repeat offences.
Tran Ngoc Quang, the presiding judge at the Tien Giang People's Court, said Nam had lost weight and showed "abnormal" health signs since early this year, and the police had been ordered to keep tabs on him to confirm suspicions about his possible drug use.
Nam is the latest to join the list of disgraced judges in the delta, after Ca Mau Province authorities in October 2011 sacked Nguyen Thanh Mong and Soc Trang Province last December fired Huynh Hong Thang, both for committing adultery.
