Police in the northern province of Quang Ninh Friday rescued a nine-month old baby from being smuggled to China.

Duong Hoang Anh was saved by Mong Cai Town police, when Le Thi Mo, 32, was attempting to send him to over the town's border with China.

Initial information is that Mo kidnapped Anh while visiting the grocery store owned by his mother, Le Thi Long, in the southern province of Dong Nai on Tuesday.

Police said Long was then busy with washing clothes so she asked Mo to keep an eye on her child, without elaborating on her relationship with the woman.

Informed that Mo had taken Anh to Quang Ninh, Dong Nai police asked their counterparts in Mong Cai to help search for Mo, with suspicions that the woman would soon attempt to transport the baby to China.

A report by the Vietnam News Agency quoted Mo as telling police that her elder sister in China had asked her to find a baby to sell.

Mong Cai police had handed over Mo to Dong Nai police in order for the latter to continue their investigation.
