Starting the beginning of this September, more than a million teachers from Vietnam's public schools will get an average extra payment of around US$25 a month.

According to a resolution passed by the Prime Minister on teachers' bonuses, the extra payment will be based on the teachers' experience.

The extra payment will be made to teachers who have at least five years of teaching at state schools, news website VietNamNet reported.

A teacher having five years experience will be paid an extra VND295,000 a month ($15) while those with 35 years of service will earn an additional VND2 million.

Bui Manh Nhi, a Ministry of Education and Training official said the extra payment will also increase the teachers' pension later.

It will also set standards for private schools to make necessary adjustments to their payment scales, Nhi said.
