Vietnam extradites two Russian suspects

The Hanoi People's Court decided to extradite two Russian men on Friday in line with an international arrest warrant issued by the Russian Prosecution Service.

The men are Poli Akov, 39, and Kosenok Alexey, 36, both accused of several charges each, VnExpress news website reported.

Akov is acused of blackmail, theft and property destruction. Alexey is accused of blackmail, theft and and robbery.

The arrest warrants were issued against the duo in September 2012.

They were arrested in the north-central province of Quang Tri in July while attempting to enter Laos through the Lao Bao Border Gate.

According to the court, the Russian Prosecution service had requested the extradition of Akov and Alexey, saying the duo are facing charges for crimes that are unrelated to politics, religion and are not subjected to face death penalty.

The court said their decision was in line with mutual judicial assistance agreements.
