A 25-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday after he killed two seven month-old twin baby girls and injured four others, including his mother and sister, during a murderous rampage in southern Vietnam.
Pham Van Manh was restrained by residents in Nhon Trach District, Dong Nai Province, before they handed him over to the police.
Witnesses said the rampage began at around 1 p.m. the same day when Manh suddenly attacked the 73-year-old neighbor Ho Thi Pham, who was babysitting a 7-year-old boy and the twin babies. He chopped them with a hoe.
When his mother, Tran Thi Xinh, came to disarm him, Manh took up an ice cutting knife and slashed her. He then turned to stab his sister, Pham Thi Gai before being restrained.
All six of his victims were rushed to the hospital. The baby girls died soon after being admitted and the boy remains in critical condition at Dong Nai Pediatric Hospital.
At the hospital, the assailant's mother said her son had been addicted to heroin for several months.
