The Ho Chi Minh City customs department said Monday it seized a consignment of drug precursors labeled as gifts headed for Australia a few days ago, online newspaper VnExpress reported.

They checked a batch and found it contained 17 kilograms of wet tissues.

Suspicious, they handed over the batch to the police, and tests found the tissues soaked in ephedrine.

A second package claimed to contain three jars of seaweed cream used to dissolve belly fat, but actually contained 1.6 kilograms of pseudoephedrine.

According to customs, several days earlier a "suspicious" consignment of 20 cans of preserved meat was seized, and it turned out to contain four kilograms of pseudoephedrine.

Investigations are continuing.
