A court in Vietnam on Thursday sentenced two men to one year in jail each for snatching a bag from an American tourist downtown Ho Chi Minh City on the last New Year’s Eve.
Le Hoang Nu, 25, and Nguyen Chi Bao, 18, were convicted of “robbery” by the HCMC People’s Court, Phap Luat newspaper reported.
According to the indictment read at the trial, Nu and Bao were riding a bike looking for preys in the downtown at around 6:10 p.m. on December 31, 2014 when they saw the American tourist walking on Huynh Thuc Khang St.
Bao grabbed her bag and they sped off, but were chased by a police officer and green-uniformed guards in the area.
Bao was caught after the short chase. Nu managed to escape only to be apprehended three days later.
The police returned the bag to the tourist.
