A police officer in the coastal city of Nha Trang committed suicide Monday, leaving behind a note saying he could no longer tolerate rumors that he had killed his wife and two daughters a few months ago.
Online news web site VnExpress quoted the police as saying Major Nguyen Ngoc Han, 47, electrocuted himself at home at around 1 a.m.
In the letter, Han said people suspected he had killed his wife and daughters so that he could marry another woman to have a son to carry on his family name.
On June 11 his family died in a fire at home while he was reportedly at work. The police suspect that the fire was caused by an electric-bicycle charger.
