A Ho Chi Minh City cop has been arrested for allegedly stealing the motorbike of a fellow officer when it was parked in a police parking lot, Tuoi Tre reported Monday.

The newspaper quoted an unnamed source as saying that on November 8, the Ministry of Public Security's department of social crimes (C45) handed over Tran Xuan Truong, 28, to District 1's police division for questioning.

Truong, an officer with a special task force under the ministry, was arrested on September 15, for allegedly stealing the bike of T.D.D., an officer with the ministry's Department of Guarding Police.

Initial information was that on September 7, D. parked his bike in the parking lot of the Criminal Police Department under the ministry, leaving it there overnight. When he returned the next day it was gone, so he informed HCMC's police and C45.

C45 later concluded that Truong had busted the bike's lock, stole D.'s motorbike and planned to have his friend sell it.

But due to some reason, the bike could not be sold, so he ended up storing it at his house, police said.

Police are investigating.
