A taxi driver in Hanoi has tracked down a forgetful client to return US$30,000 that he left on the cab.
Nguyen Viet Thong, a driver of Mai Linh Taxi, saw the bag full of money after dropping the passenger off in downtown Hanoi on Tuesday afternoon.
Thong called his headquarters asking them to contact him. They could only do that because the passenger had called the company to book a cab in advance.
Tran Binh Duong said he received the call just half an hour after he left the car.
Duong said his bag also contained many valuable papers.
He said he tried to thank the driver with VND200,000 ($9.5) but Thong did not take it.
Vietnam’s per capita income was $1,890 in 2013, according to the World Bank.
While taxi drivers in Vietnam have gotten a bad name for meter scams and even robbing customers, a source from Mai Linh said its drivers returned forgotten luggage to nearly 4,000 passengers last year.
