Vietnam cabbie arrested for robbing customer’s $11,100
Police in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday arrested a taxi driver for alleged robbery of a bag with some US$11.100 of cash, gold and diamond from a Canadian customer.
Nguyen Huynh Ly, 25, from the city’s top taxi firm Vinasun, was arrested soon after the customer, 54, complained to the police that night.
The woman said her relatives had called her a taxi for the airport.
Ly arrived, loading all her luggage aboard and left while the woman, whose name was not revealed, was still saying goodbye to her relatives.
Some family members drove motorbikes after him but to no avail.
According to the police, the stolen luggage, including some gold and diamond jewelries and around $500 in cash, were recovered and returned to the woman.
Ly has admitted his guilt and police are investigating further.
