The Ho Chi Minh City police Monday arrested a man for an alleged burglary thanks to a wallet he left behind at a house from where he stole two expensive mobile phones and an iPad, Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper reported.

Police said Nguyen Thanh Hiep, 25, of Ben Tre Province broke into the house of Huynh Long Dam, 31, in District 3 when Dam was not home early Sunday morning.

When Dam returned home, he saw two men on a motorbike in front of his house, preparing to ride away. Behind them was the front door of the house, broken open.

Dam shouted for help and chased after the bike but the men managed to escape.

He went into the house and discovered that things had been stolen. But there was a wallet with a temporary residence card and instructions for post-drug management, both bearing the name of Nguyen Thanh Hiep.

He handed over the wallet to the local police, who tracked down Hiep and summoned him for questioning.

Hiep confessed to burglarizing Dam's house.

The police did not reveal the identity of his accomplice.
