Construction began Thursday on Vietnam's first single plane cable stay bridge, which will cross the Han River in Da Nang.
The six-lane, 759 meter-long Nguyen Van Troi Tran Thi Ly bridge is expected to cost nearly VND1.5 trillion (US$79 million).
WSP Finland, the bridge's designer, said elevators will lead visitors to a lookout room atop a 145-meter-high upside-down "V" in the middle of the structure for a panoramic view of the entire city.
The bridge, constructed by the Civil Construction Engineering Corporation (Cienco) No.1 under the Transport Ministry, is planned to be finished in the middle 2014.
