Investigators from the Ministry of Public Security on Tuesday arrested six men in Ho Chi Minh City for pretending to run online stores and cheating a lot of customers.
Police arrested the suspects, between 21 and 27 years old, from different places in the city.
Two of them, Nguyen Van Do and Tran Ngoc Tay, both 21 and from the central province of Quang Ngai, have been allegedly among the three leaders of the ring. The other is being wanted nationwide.
Another arrestee, Dinh Phong Phu, 27, was also wanted for robbery, police said.
Investigation found that they advertised electronics, mostly cell phones, at cheap prices online. They also offered to help clients obtain land and housing papers.
They, however, did not have any real products or services to offer.
Police said the suspects had used lost ID cards of others to open bank accounts to avoid being detected.
An officer said the group was operating for a long time and scammed "a long list of people," without specifying how many.
He only said their bank accounts have received tens of thousands of dollars.
