The Ministry of Transportation has approved a plan to build an expressway linking Da N
ang City and Quang Ngai Province in the central region at a cost of VND27.97 trillion (US$1.43 billion).
According to the Quang Ngai Province's administration, the expressway will be nearly 140 kilometers long and designed for travel at speeds of up to 120 kilometers an hour.
Construction will start at the end of this year. The project is expected to be completed in 2016 and will link to National Highway 1A.
Last year, the World Bank said in a statement that the Da Nang-Quang Ngai expressway project has been identified as the main priority for its funding.
The expressway is located between Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi. More than 40 percent of traffic on the expressway is made up of long-distance commuters travelling between Northern and Southern regions, the bank said, adding that the project will also stimulate the development of Da Nang as an export hub.
