National carrier Vietnam Airlines Saturday (Nov 5) delayed a flight for about two hours after a passenger opened an emergency exit shortly before takeoff.
Nguyen Duc Duy, a 22-year-old student from Ho Chi Minh City, is facing a fine of VND10-20 million (US$475-951) for his act.
Duy was reportedly seated next to an emergency exit and pressed the open button, which he thought was the button to open the window, before the Airbus took off from HCMC to Hanoi.
The incident forced Vietnam Airlines to change the plane and the flight was delayed by two hours.
Duy told airline authorities he had boarded a plane for the first time and did not know anything about emergency exits.
