Vietnamese aviation authorities have fined an airline passengers VND4 million (US$185) for smoking on a Vietnam Airlines plane.
Nguyen Canh Dinh, 28, reportedly entered the restroom during the VN 239 flight from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City on Friday afternoon.
After the fire alarm was set off, the flight attendants came in and found him.
When the crew members tried to make a report on the violation, Dinh refused to provide his personal information.
He then wrote in his report that he did see the “No smoking” sign in the restroom, but he just smoked a little bit and then extinguished the cigarette.
According to a government decree, in-flight smoking is subject to a fine of up to VND5 million ($231).
