The Southern Airports Authority fined a Vietnamese passenger VND750,000 (US$36) for smoking on a Vietnam Airlines flight Friday, newswire VnExpress reported.
Nguyen Nhat Minh, 31, was onboard flight VN1263 from Vinh to Ho Chi Minh City on Friday morning.
Crew members found Minh smoking in the toilet after the fire alarm began to ring.
The fine was imposed under a government decree against several violations of flight safety regulations such as smoking, using radio devices in banned areas and joking about explosive materials at airports or onboard aircraft.
The act of smoking during flight attracts fines between VND500,000 and VND1 million ($24-$48).
