Leaving Vietnam 25 years ago on board a trawler, a Vietnamese American man last week returned to the country for the first time, only to find out that he's still wanted by the police for hijacking that boat.
In July 1990, Bui Van Tanh, then 36, and some other people allegedly attacked the crew of the fishing boat in the beach town of Nha Trang, and took their boat, Khanh Hoa Online news website quoted the local police as saying.
When Tanh returned to Vietnam this month, he was summoned to the local police for questioning.
According to Tanh, after hijacking the boat, they set sail for the Philippines, where they stayed for half a year in a refugee camp before migrating to the U.S.
Tanh was later granted American citizenship.
