A Vietnamese American man has been arrested in the southern province of Dong Nai for crashing his car into local traffic officers, injuring one of them, while trying to escape after being caught speeding.
Nguyen Van Hung, 58, did not stop his car until traffic police fired a warning shot on Tuesday, Colonel Nguyen Duc Chuong, chief of Dinh Quan District's police division was quoted as saying in Tuoi Tre on Thursday.
When he was questioned at the police station later, it was determined that Hung was drunk. He continuously refused to answer police's questions, verbally abusing them instead, Chuong said.
According to information released by the police, that day a team of traffic officers caught Hung speeding and signaled for him to pull over.
Hung disobeyed the order, continued speeding and crashed into the place where the officers were standing, before heading toward the central highlands province of Lam Dong.
On his way, Hung was ordered to stop by another traffic team, but again ignored the order, ramming into the team's vehicle and injuring one officer.
The traffic officers then fired a warning shot, and were able to arrest him with the help of local police.
Colonel Ngo Van Chien, chief of Dong Nai's road and railway traffic police division, told Tuoi Tre that they will seek criminal charges against Hung.
The man has been fined many times for disturbing public security in Dinh Quan and Thong Nhat Districts while drunk, Chien said.
