Valentine's Day turned into an unimaginable tragedy in the northwestern province of Son La, where a college student was allegedly strangled to death by her ex-boyfriend, who then killed himself.
At around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Le Quang Huy, 23, jumped off the 7th floor of a building on the campus of Tay Bac University in Son La Town, dying instantaneously.
Huy was an alumnus of the university.
Two hours later, the dead body of Lo Thi Thuy, Huy's 21-year-old ex-girlfriend, was found in her rented apartment near the university campus.
Thuy was strangled to death, according to police.
Thuy was found lying in bed, a blanket covering her body and a note which read, "Dead at 8 a.m.," placed on her face.
Thuy's classmates said Huy and Thao were in a relationship when Huy was still studying at the university.
After Huy graduated and moved to another province for a job, Thuy began dating a new suitor, they said.
The owner of the apartment where Thuy stayed told police Huy came to the apartment three days earlier (February 11), asking about Thuy and telling the owner not to tell Thuy he had been there.
Police believe Huy had murdered Thuy before leaving the apartment and leaping to his own death.
Investigations are ongoing.
