Four students in a northern Vietnam province were injured Wednesday when cluster bombs that their friends were playing with exploded.
The students have been hospitalized but there is no information yet on the extent of their injuries.
A report on news website VnExpress said the explosion happened at around 8 a.m. at the Tien Phong Secondary School in Phu Tho Province, around 80 kilometers from Hanoi.
Two other students had brought the bombs they picked up earlier near the Chay River nearby. Another student threw one at a tree in the school, causing the bomb to explode, the report said.
Two eighth graders and two sixth graders were injured in the explosion. A subsequent search by the police found another cluster bomb in the area that was defused.
Locals say the river area used to be a wharf heavily bombed during the Vietnam War.
They said they have noticed UXOs many times and reported the matter to the authorities, the news website reported.
