USNS Richard E. Byrd, a United States Navy cargo ship, docked at Cam Ranh Bay in the Vietnamese south central province of Khanh Hoa on Thursday for regular maintenance and minor repairs.
The maintenance and repairs will be made by the Cam Ranh Shipbuilding Plant, a subsidiary of Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group, from May 25 to June 7, with an estimated cost of US$400,000.
The USNS Richard E. Byrd is able to deliver ammunition, provisions, stores, spare parts, potable water and petroleum products to the US Navy's carrier strike groups and other naval forces worldwide.
The ship operates in the Pacific Fleet. It has 123 civil service mariners and 12 USNS staff on board.
