A fishing vessel registered in Vietnam's central province of Khanh Hoa was fleeced last week by a group of pirates in the waters near the Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands.
A group of armed men, on an unmarked wooden ship, jumped onto fishing boat KH98192TS at around 10 a.m. Tuesday.
The armed pirates stole all of the vessel's equipment, including its GPS navigational system.
The seven man crew was left with only 400 liters of diesel around 100 nautical miles away from the Truong Sa Islands.
The National Association for Search And Rescue called the Navy and other ships in the area to assist the crew, which was left uninjured.
The managing board of the Truong Sa’s Song Tu Tay Island later guided the ship toward the island. It took around 30 hours to get to shore, the authorities estimated.
