Two women in the central coastal province of Binh Dinh were hospitalized on Wednesday after being attacked by an unidentified fish earlier that day.
Truong Thi Tanh, 60, said at around 6 a.m. she and three of her friends were swimming some 15 meters from the shore at Quy Nhon beach when a fish bit her leg and foot.
One of the victims, Nguyen Thi Thu Thao, 52, said after Tanh was attacked, they swam towards the beach, but she herself was attacked some five meters off shore.
At least ten people have been attacked by unidentified fish. The first attack was reported last July.
Since then, local fishermen have caught three sharks. The latest one, weighing 60 kilograms, was caught last month and was believed to be the culprit.
In March, Binh Dinh fishermen caught a shark weighing more than half a ton, just one month after a one-ton great white shark was caught near the shore of neighboring Phu Yen Province.
