Vietnamese applying for a visa to the UK will have their application processing wait time cut from 15 to 3-5 days under a new priority visa program run by the British government.
The UK Border Agency said on its website that the service, starting today, is available for visa applicants in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
The process of opting for the priority visa service is different in Hanoi than it is in HCMC. These services are optional and available for an additional fee.
The service will be available to business visitors who have travelled in the last five years to the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or Schengen countries, their spouse and accompanying children (under 18).
It will also be available for applications from those applying under Tier 1 and Tier 2 of the Points Based system, their spouse and accompanying children (under 18).
Between June 2012 and June 2013, the UK received 13,700 visa applications from Vietnam.
The UK has also made some changes to immigration rules, effective today, to make them more flexible for tourists, businesses and workers.
The changes include removing the English language requirement for intra-company transferees, allowing tourists and business visitors to study in the country when it is not the main purpose of their visit, expanding the activities a business visitor can do in the UK, and removing the prospective student route.
