Police in the Central Highlands region detained two people Tuesday for trafficking women across the border into China.
Nguyen Van Giap and Mai Thi Hoa of Dak Nong Province were arrested on tip-offs by two of their victims who managed to return to Vietnam in August.
Early this year, Giap and Hoa had taken the two women, 32 and 22 years old, to China after telling them they were going on a trip. The women were then sold to Mai Thi Sau, Hoa's sister, for VND20 million (US$1,000).
The women were forced to work as prostitutes for Sau before they were sold to another brothel owner named Lien for VND100 million, the women said.
