A woman trafficking syndicate was busted Monday at the Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City as two women were about to be taken to Hanoi en route to brothels in China.
Two members of the gang were arrested at the airport, and they led the police to four others including the ring leader Pham Thi Hong Duc, 60. All the arrested people are women.
Police found Duc was also running a different woman trafficking operation, but gave no further details.
Authorities said at a conference August 21 that they have rescued 398 women from trafficking syndicates since 2009.
Most victims were poor and naive, and lured by promises of job opportunities or rich marriages in northern Vietnam.
They were taken to China without their knowledge.
