Two men have been detained by police in the southern province of Can Tho for selling fake diplomas and graduate degrees.

Nguyen Viet Anh, 33, and Cao Bang Giang, 40, of Ho Chi Minh City, had been offering the service recently in the Mekong Delta province for up to VND90 million (US$4,320) per degree, police said Sunday.

They said Anh and Giang had been engaged in large-scale forgery of government documents.

Many tools used for making the fake degrees including stamps of the issuing institutions have been seized, the police said.

The duo were offering doctoral, master and college degrees of many schools, including foreign ones. High school certificates were also available for those seeking to study abroad.

Customers only needed to supply their photographs and their ID cards, and could receive the degrees in several days for prices starting from VND11 million.

The detained men reportedly told the police they had produced at least 30 degrees a month over the past year, with pharmaceutical degrees having the highest demand and fetching the highest prices.
