Two men carrying a tiger carcass weighing nearly 100 kilograms were caught on Friday after the car in which they were traveling was stopped by police officials.
The tiger, which looked like it had been killed recently, was found on the back seat of the car driven by Dang Xuan Loan, 41, as it was being checked by a group of traffic police officers in Ha Dong District.
According to police, they asked Loan to pull over because the car looked "suspicious."
However, when people crowded the car out of curiosity, Loan managed to run away.
The other man, 52-year-old Le Dinh Thoi, claimed that he had no knowledge of the tiger, a Vietnamnet report said.
Thoi together with the tiger's carcass has been handed over to the police department in the capital city for further investigation.
