Two young men suspected of killing a man on Christmas Eve and dismembering him in order to cover up the crime have been arrested by Dong Nai police.
Ngo Van Tam, 19, and Tran Tu Dien, 23, stabbed Bui Thanh Liem, 26, to death at around 11 p.m. on Monday (December 24) with two knives they had just bought, police say.
Later, they used the knives to cut Liem's body into several parts and put them into two sacks before removing all traces of blood in the house that the three men had rented in Bien Hoa Town's An Binh Ward.
The two suspects then borrowed a motorbike and waited until early Tuesday (December 25) morning to dispose of the body. Locals saw two men carrying bags to a dead-end alley in the town's Binh Da Ward and throwing them into a marshy area near a ditch.
At around 5 a.m., the bags were recovered. One contained Liem's head, chest and part of the belly. His arms, legs and remaining part of the belly were in another bag, the Lao Dong (Labor) newspaper reported Tuesday. It cited the police as saying two deep stab wounds were found on his chest.
Preliminary investigations show that the three men were having a sexual relationship, and that Tam was Liem's co-worker at Proconco, an animal feed company. It appears that after having sex with Tam, Liem had promised to give him VND500 million (US$24,000).
Tam reportedly told the police that they killed Liem because they thought the latter was lying about giving the money. Liem had refused to give the money as promised many times, Tam said.
Another co-worker with Liem at Proconco, who wanted to remain anonymous, said that when he did not see Liem at work and heard about a murder, he went to the police station and identified the body.
He then cooperated with investigators and called Tam to a café in Bien Hoa Town on Wednesday morning where the latter was arrested.
Through Tam, the police found Dien at an acquaintance's house in Bien Hoa and arrested him.
At the site of the murder they found five knives, including one 70 centimeters long, a knife sharpener, and a motorbike.
