A court in Hanoi on Monday sentenced a man and a woman to a combined 13 months in jail for stealing from a foreigner after providing him with home massage services last year.
Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, 23, and Tran Duc Trung, 19, of Hai Phong City, got eight and five months, respectively, on "thievery" charges.
On October 11, 2011, Ha saw Stephan Ryan, a 26-year-old Irish hailing a cab from a bar to his rented house in Hanoi's Tay Ho District.
She called Trung and the pair followed Ryan to his house on a motorbike.
They then introduced themselves as masseuses and persuaded Ryan to enjoy the services at his house for a low price.
Ryan let Ha in to perform massage services. When he was not looking, Ha stole two laptops and a mobile phone worth a total VND19 million (US$911) from the house.
She transferred the items to Trung, who was still standing outside the house.
Trung was then caught by a group of police officers on patrol while he was carrying the products to another hiding place.
