Customs authorities at Ho Chi Minh City's Tan Son Nhat International Airport said Wednesday they found two airline passengers transporting illegal drugs last month.

On June 28, customs officers found more than 2 kilograms of methamphetamine in a plastic bag in the suitcase of Erlinda Bertulfo Libron, a 66-year-old Philippine national.

The woman had just arrived at the Tan Son Nhat Airport on a flight from Doha.

Earlier on June 23, Vietnamese police arrested E.B. Ikechukwu, a 30-year-old Nigerian man, after a customs check found around 3.5 kilograms of methamphetamine in 19 plastic bags inside his luggage.

Ikechukwu had just got off the plane from Bangkok to HCMC.

HCMC police are investigating the cases further.

Vietnam has some of the world's toughest drug laws, with those convicted of smuggling more than 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kilograms of methamphetamine eligible for the death penalty.
