Two dead, two critical in southern Vietnam after drinking party

Authorities in the southern province of Dong Nai Sunday carried out autopsies on two people who are suspected to have died of alcohol poisoning.

Two other people who drank with them are in serious condition.

According to local police, on Thursday morning, Dao Van Ut, 48, Nguyen Son Hai, 37, Truong Thien Minh and Le Tong Nhi Hung, both 43, had a drinking party.

The wine was bought from a nearby grocery store.

At night that same day, Ut started vomiting and his eyes became glassy. The man's family took him to a local hospital but he died Friday night, police said.

Meanwhile, the others had another session on Friday morning. After the party, Hai slept continuously until Saturday noon when he complained of pains in his chest. He eyes turned glassy as well.

Hai was rushed to the Dong Nai General Hospital, but died later that same day.

Two others, Hung and Minh, also suffered symptoms of alcohol poisoning and were admitted to the hospital on Sunday.

The police said they have taken samples of rice wine from the grocery store to carry out tests.

They will investigate the case further, they added.
