Two 15-year-old boys allegedly drowned while swimming near a beach in the south central province of Binh Dinh on Thursday.

A group of six ninth graders from the Tran Hung Dao Secondary School in Quy Nhon had gone to the beach of the same name to play football.

At around 6 p.m. the boys dove into the waves for a swim.

Around 30 minutes later, four boys returned to shore. They asked the local lifeguards about the two others Vo Thanh Luan and Nguyen Huynh Thai Van but they responded that they hadn't seen either boy.

The rescuers searched for Luan and Van in the dark, turbulent waters for hours to no avail.

At around 4 a.m. the following day, nearby residents discovered Van's body after it washed ashore.

Luan remains missing.
