Provincial police in Nam Dinh Province announced the arrest of two people, Tuesday, for allegedly transporting five kilograms of heroin from the northern province of Lai Chau.
Vietnam News Agency quoted Vu Manh Tuong, head of the Nam Dinh Police Department’s Drug Crime Inspectorate (PC47), as saying that police caught Le Thi Sinh, 47, with one kilogram of heroin near a market in Nam Dinh Town on Sunday.
Acting on information provided by Sinh, they arrested Tan Leng May, 67, while he was in the process of dropping off four kilograms of heroin by motorbike later that same day.
Tuong said the suspects are part of a ring that trafficked drugs from Lai Chau to Nam Dinh. Both men will be eligible for the death sentence under Vietnam's stringent drug laws.
