Two fourth-grade boys were found drowned in a 2-meter tall water tank in Da Mi ward, Binh Thuan Province on Tuesday.
The families of Tran Van Phuc and Tran Duc Duy, who were both classmates and neighbors, started searching for them at 5.30 p.m. the same day after finding out that the boys were not at home after school.
Their naked bodies were found later in the water tank, built in the front yard of a house a few hundreds meters away from theirs.
They were holding each other tightly, police said. They found one boy's clothes hanging by the tank.
The boys couldn't swim, their relatives said. According to the police, the boys were about 1.2 meter (3.9 ft) tall, while the water level in the tank was about 1.4 meter.
Tran Van Long, the owner of the house where the bodies were found, told police that he had not seen kids playing near the water tank before.
He said he had covered the tank with a large plastic sheet before leaving for work that morning.
Police are investigating further.
